Black Britain. A Photographic History

People of African and Caribbean descent have inhabited the British Isles for centuries. Paul Gilroy, renowned for his work exploring the social and cultural dimensions of black Britishness, has assembled a living history of black people in the British Isles.

Spanning two hundred years, this collection features images of black Britons at work, at war, and at play. Professor Paul Gilroy joined King‘s College, London as Professor of American and English Literature in September 2012 having previously been Giddens Professor of Social Theory at the London School of Economics (2005-2012), Charlotte Marian Saden Professor of African American Studies and Sociology at Yale (1999-2005) and Professor of Cultural Studies and Sociology at Goldsmiths College (1995-1999).
