1983 im südafrikanischen Umtata geboren, studierte Athi-Patra Ruga Modeillustration in Johannesburg und arbeitet mit Performance, Textilien und Fotografie. Seine Konstruktion von Mythen entwirft den Alltag im Südafrika nach der Apartheid neu und seine zweidimensionalen Wandteppiche vermitteln ein zeitgenössisches Gespür für Popkultur.
