Seychelles Pavilion, "Slowly Quietly"

Seychelles is participating in the 57th International Art Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia for the second consecutive year. This year, sixteen participating Seychellois artists, collectively known as Group Sez, are taking part in the exhibition to represent Seychelles within the spirit of the theme “Viva Arte Viva”.

The exhibition from Seychelles, curated by Mr Martin Kennedy and organised by the Seychelles Art Projects Foundation (SAPF,) represents the tortoises of the Seychelles. It has been aptly named “Slowly Quietly”.

The artists were given the opportunity to freely interpret blank tortoise sculptures with the aim of bringing aspects of Seychelles’ environment and culture to Venice, with the underlying theme being ‘the tortoise’. The artists wanted to evoke the same feelings of ‘introspection and reflection’ from people of Venice, as those who have interacted with the giant tortoises in person.
