The Nairobi Arts Trust/Centre for Contemporary Art of East Africa (CCAEA)

Nairobi, Kenya

The Nairobi Arts Trust was established in 2000 with the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Nairobi. In October 2002, the Nairobi Arts Trust joined with the Centre for Contemporary Art of Africa, which at the time was still active in Belgium and Angola, to form an international partnership.

The Nairobi Arts Trust/Centre for Contemporary Art of East Africa (CCAEA) has set itself the aim of aiding with the development of contemporary art and culture in the region of East Africa, strengthening interest in contemporary art, and serving as a catalyst for the creation of artistic projects of significance. It intends to assist up-and-coming and established artists by offering them an opportunity for inspiration, experimentation and education, combined with exchange of ideas and research and collaboration at the regional and international levels. Under the leadership of Jimmy O. Ogonga, the CCAEA organises a broad spectrum of symposia, lectures, artists’ discussions and studio visits that continuously appeal to a diverse audience for contemporary art forms and offer them a forum for in-depth dialogue.
