Waru Studio is a laboratory for artistic research with the following aims and range of activities: all sorts of activities in the area of production and realisation of audio-visual products of any kind, especially documentaries, reportages, films promoting awareness, TV shows, and the publication of photo books.

Founded by Fatoumata Bintou KANDE in 2001 in Dakar, the platform for artistic research Waru Studio functions like an experimental laboratory for art, natural science, technology, ecology and the politics of change – an incubator using new technologies to combine all of these sciences with each other. Convinced that art is a very effective weapon to solve the problems of Africans, Kande encourages many young people coming from very diverse backgrounds to use the possibilities Waru Studio offers in order to sharpen their artistic and technical intuition for the benefit of the Senegalese and Africans.

With this initiative she wants to encourage these young contemporary artists to actively take part in the development and dynamisation of the media and the communication sector in a professional working environment offering perspectives for the future.
