From the 15th – 17th of February 2019, the 7th edition of Investec Cape Town Art Fair (ICTAF) will return to the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC). Positioned as the leading art fair in Africa, ICTAF 2019 will include the foremost galleries from South Africa, the African continent, and abroad.

Investec Cape Town Art Fair is the largest art fair on the African continent, showing cutting edge contemporary art. The Fair provides a platform for galleries, collectors, curators and artists from around the globe to engage in cultural and economic exchange. We offer an intimate experience of one of the world’s most unique art capitals. ICTAF is where the fast-growing African art market and the international art world meet.

The allure of Investec Cape Town Art Fair is its content and its placement on the African continent. With the advent of its 7th edition, the market has proven that art fairs are a sustainable economic model for trade in contemporary art.

The city’s geography is an integral part of Investec Cape Town Art Fair’s success. Cape Town is a vibrant cultural hub, attracting international collectors with the novelty of diverse, cutting edge art and a favourable exchange rate.

A series of panel discussions by leading experts on a range of topics spanning the collection, curation and production of art, open to all fairgoers for attendance. This year the Talks Programme will be held at the Westin Hotel, directly across the street from the fair.

In its seventh edition, Investec Cape Town Art Fair will elevate the fair’s engagement with some of the most exciting artists from around the world, through the second iteration of SOLO. The fair section offers insight into artistic practice through curated solo presentations. In 2019, SOLO’s focus is the relationship between the digital and physical space, placing new and traditional media in dialogue.

By incorporating an emphasis on new media into its major platform, Investec Cape Town Art Fair is confirming its commitment to artists working in ways which resist easy interpretation and categorisation. The section will highlight the experimental practices of a number of emerging and established artists from around the world.

Exploring the effects of the digital world on our lived realities and on artistic practice, 2019’s edition of SOLO will include presentations by Tabita Rezaire, Ibrahim Mahama, Kyu Sang Lee, Sitaara Stodel, and Jake Singer. The section will present a varied selection of artists with different aesthetics and contexts, at differing stages in their careers, each with unique perspectives of the digital space and new media. Each artist has been invited to play within the section’s theme in ways that fit into the trajectory of their practice.

TOMORROWS/TODAY is a cross-section of the most exciting, emerging and less known artists from Africa and around the world chosen by Investec Cape Town Art Fair curator Tumelo Mosaka as being thought-provoking voices.

According to Mosaka the aim of TOMORROWS/TODAY is to shine a light on emerging and under-represented artists, set to be tomorrow’s leading names. It is open to those working on and beyond the African continent and as the title implies, the ongoing theme is one of transformation, and experimentation showcasing unorthodox art forms addressing current social and political issues. With Zyma Amien, Medina Dugger, John-Michael Metelerkamp, Troy Makaza, Chris Soal, Azael Langa, Armand Boua, Ihosvanny, Aimé Mpane and Michael Cook.
