15 October 2025

Giana De Dier is a Panamanian artist who creates mixed collages and digital compositions using both old and contemporary intimate photos of Black people. Her artistic work examines the experiences of Afro-Caribbean migrants in the segregated Canal Zone and Panama City in the early 20th century. De Dier's work involves the reconstruction of situations sourced from photographic archives, oral histories, family photos, and documents to spark conversations around memory, identity, and representation, establishing connections with shared truths within the context of the African diaspora. The artist’s collages showcase the sociability of Black Caribbean women in Panama and present possible narratives while also highlighting the hardships and stories of resilience of those whose experiences have been historically silenced. She studied Visual Arts at the University of Panama and has showcased her work in various exhibitions, including those at the Panama Museum of Contemporary Art, the Gallerie delle Prigioni in Italy, the Abuja Art Week Digital Exhibition Pavilion in Nigeria, and the SMV Gallery and IDB Staff Association Art Gallery in the U.S.
