Doual’art is a center for contemporary art, founded in 1991 as a non-profit organization by Marilyn Douala Bell and Didier Schaub. Its aim is to support the contemporary production of art in Cameroon with exhibitions, workshops, and seminars, and to use a participatory approach in furthering the development of cultural identity and aesthetic consciousness in the local population.

Public space plays a key role in doual’art’s projects, with the art center functioning as a laboratory for artistic experiments in urban areas. With its site-specific, artistic interventions, doual’art brings together social and economic actors, local and international artists, and the community. The center’s work is motivated by the belief that artistic and cultural practice has the potential to instigate social change and is an effective weapon in the struggle against poverty and for freedom of expression and social cohesion. In 2007, Doual’art launched SUD – Salon urbain de Douala, a festival of art in public space, which takes place every three years and attracts national and international attention.
