(IN)DEPENDENCE

The (IN)DEPENDENCE is an artist-led group exhibition. Presented by A.I.R.T.S. (And I Resumed the Struggle) in association with The Olympia Gallery this is the fourth exhibition in the successful series which has ensured that established and emerging artists could maintain their practice during the pandemic.

In a statement to Olympia Gallery, A.I.R.T.S comments on the exhibition's focus

<p class="s10">"In our 60th year of independence Jamaica has, in many ways, come a long way since the labour riots of the late 30s through to our political and social crescendos of the 70s and, worst yet, the blood bath of the 80s. Through these experiences the crafting of our institutions and laws have been a task that has been set before successive generations, on both sides of our political divide. While we have made strides in various aspects of the Jamaican project, there are still many gaps that are yet to be filled with functional solutions for the interface between state and citizenry." </p>

Contributing artists include: Simon Benjamin, Demar Brackenridge, Michaella Garrick, Akeem Johnson, Matthew Mccarthy, Rohmearo Mcfarlane, Nicholas Rose, Storm Saulter and Tuesdae Stewart. Returning artists to the series are: Zorhia Allen, Greg Bailey, Kimani Beckford, John Campbell, Camille Chedda and K. Khalfani Ra.
On Saturday January 21rst at 11 am local time, there will also be an artist talk with Akeem Johnson, Rohmearo Mcfarlane, Nicholas Rose and Storm Saulter. You can join the talk via Instagram Live @resumethestruggle or at The Olympia Gallery.
