Kassou Seydou: Comme la jungle, la mer
The Cécile Fakhoury Gallery is pleased to present Comme la jungle, la mer a new solo exhibition of the Senegalese artist Kassou Seydou (born in 1971 in Zinguinchor, Senegal. Lives and works in Keur Massar, Senegal). From Dakar to Abidjan, the artist takes us on a plastic and poetic odyssey around the journey. On 26 September 2002, the ship the Joola, which links the port of Zinguinchor in Casamance, Senegal, home of Kassou Seydou, to the port of Dakar, is wrecked. Of the human drama that still marks the consciousness of several generations of Senegalese, one question remains: what still drives us to travel? From the chosen journey to the journey that is imposed on us or that is imposed on us, Kassou Seydou depicts in imposing frescoes the meanders of spiritual and physical journeys. Always sensitive to the social issues that affect his country and the world as a whole, Kassou Seydou invites us to question our prism of perception and to embrace, in a generous and human gesture, the complex relationship between the construction of identity and otherness. cecilefakhoury.com
