Luis Rivera Jimenez: A Brief Proposal on Race and Cultural Cosplay

“Luis Rivera Jimenez: A Brief Proposal on Race and Cultural Cosplay”, is the first solo exhibition of Puerto Rican artist Luis Rivera Jimenez. This show will be presented at the Arizona State University (ASU) Art Museum’s Nelson Fine Arts Center. Using the intricacies of language, political thought, and daily experience in the Caribbean the artist creates intentional spaces of learning, conversation, and care.

The featured artworks were produced during Jimenez’s art residency at CALA Alliance in early 2023. His practice reflects the fundamentals of what he describes as a “global digital society”, by tracing a relationship between memory, images, and symbols.

The objects and texts within the exhibition build on Jimenez’s accumulation and processing of various tools: discussions, found objects, experiences in contact with communities, digital content and physical and ephemeral materials. Through sculptural pieces and installations, questions about the dynamics of race and representation are raised

This exhibition was curated by Alana Hernandez in collaboration with Sade Moore.
