M’barek Bouhchichi: Who I am, What We Are

Cierra: 5 julio 2025

L’Atelier 21 announces the third solo exhibition of visual artist M’barek Bouhchichi. Titled What I Am, What We Are, the show will run from May 27 to July 5, 2025. Through a powerful series of portraits painted directly onto sheets of rubber, M’barek Bouhchichi continues his exploration where art, memory, and politics intertwine to create a new visual order. Far from a purely illustrative approach, his painting becomes a space of symbolic resistance, where bodies reappear as bearers of stories long pushed to the margins.

Black Moroccans are the core subject of Bouhchichi’s work. By embracing the quintessential retinal medium—painting—the artist passionately continues his mission to render visible Black men and women, along with the cultural practices that belong to them.
