Memoria: Account of another history – Group Show

Memoria: Account of another history addresses the idea of a collective memory made up of a myriad of narratives, accounts, questions and experiences scattered in our individual, personal and intimate memories. This collective memory comes to light in this exhibition in the work of artists that remind us of the (re)construction of a common, universal whole, affording us a new perspective on contemporary creation originating from Africa and its diasporas. Artists: Dalila Dalléas Bouzar (Algeria/France) - Ndidi Dike (Negeria) - Enam Gbewonyo (Ghana/UK) - Bouchra Khalili (Morocco/France) - Gosette Lubondo (Democratic Republic of Congo) - Myriam Mihindou (Gabon/France) - Wangechi Mutu (Kenya/USA) - Otobong Nkanga (Nigeria/Belgique) - Josèfa Ntjam (Cameroon/France) - Selly Raby Kane (Senegal) - Na Chainkua Reindorf (Ghana/USA) - Mary Sibande (South Africa) About the African partner: Artness - Nadine Hounkpatin (Benin/France) and Céline Seror (France) Nadine Hounkpatin and Céline Seror, founders of Artness, are independent consultants and curators specialised in contemporary art of Africa and its diasporas. They regularly work with public and private institutions throughout the world, whether it be to design or manage artistic and publishing projects (museums, arts centers, foundations) as well as with major events dedicated to African contemporary productions. In Memoria, the duet continues to explore themes such as the reclaiming of storytelling, the rewriting of history, and the building of a universal memory. About the Frac Nouvelle-Aquitaine MÉCA (Creative Economy and Cultural Center) The Nouvelle-Aquitaine Regional Fund for Contemporary Art MÉCA (Creative Economy and Cultural Center) has been providing artists with lasting support since 1982 by gathering a collection of artworks and expanding it every year, a collection which is open to public viewing on a daily basis. The FRAC (Regional Fund for Contemporary Art) brings together dissemination, mediation, collection and production roles that are closest to the artists. Set up in 2019 at the MÉCA (architect: Bjarke Ingels), the Fund develops, together with a group of partners in New Aquitaine and beyond, an artistic programme mixing together creative and social issues in the form of creative actions and shared time spent with the artworks. saisonafrica2020.com
