The second edition of the multidisciplinary festival ‘100%‘ is devoted to Africa. In the context of ‘100% Afrique‘ La Villette presents Afriques Capitales, an exhibition curated by Simon Njami, dedicated to the major African cities. The opportunity to discover the contemporary African art scene through paintings, photos, installations, videos, sculptures and sound creations.

Afriques Capitales will gather more than ten productions specially made for the exhibition, including several monumental works, and more than sixty artists of all generations. Among others: Pascale Marthine Tayou, William Kentridge, Akinbode Akinbiyi, James Webb, Leïla Alaoui, Mimi Cherono Ng’ok, Lavar Munroe, Hassan Hajjaj, Abdoulaye Konate and many more … Many artists will be exhibited for the first time in France.

The experience of Afriques Capitales will continue outside as part of the Moins de la Photo du Grand Paris. And from 6th April to 3rd September 2017, the second chapter of Afriques Capitales will be written in Lille, at the Gare Saint-Sauveur, with the exhibition Cape of Good Hope Here We Come.

More than a mere panorama of African creation, the purpose of these two exhibitions “is to work from the works and artists whose work will speak for itself to tell the story that is theirs and which, in fact , Concerns us all» Simon Njami
