In response to the current COVID-19 crisis, Tate Britain announced that the this year's Turner Prize is cancelled and will be replaced by cash prizes of £10,000 to 10 individual artists.

Tate Britain announced the Turner Prize is cancelled this year, due to the current situation of COVID-19 and its present restrictions. The circumstances make it too difficult to prepare the annual exhibition, which usually surrounds the renowned prize, so the explanation. In place of the prize, they will be awarding one-off bursaries of £10,000 to 10 artists. The ‘Turner Bursaries’ will be selected by the jury at the end of June, among the jurors designer and curator Duro Olowu.

The decision was made to help support a larger selection of artists through this period of profound disruption and uncertainty. The jury has spent 12 months visiting hundreds of exhibitions in preparation for selecting the nominees. In line with the existing prize criteria, they are invited to nominate British artists based on their contribution to new developments in contemporary art at this time.
