Bag Factory: Reflections – Group Show

Bag Factory: Reflections – Group Show
Bag Factory Artists’ Studios presents Bag Factory: Reflections - a new group exhibition comprised of photography, video, painting, printmaking, and mixed media artworks. The exhibition features the artworks of the following artists: Mpumelelo Buthelezi, Alka Dass, Mahube Diseko, Kay-Leigh Fisher, Erla Haraldsdóttir, Ronél de Jager, Thonton Kabeya, Hemali Khoosal, Lebogang Mogul Mabusela, Bulumko Mbete, Brian Montshiwa, DuduBloom More, Boitmelo Motau, Nadia Myburgh, Richard ‘Specs’ Ndimande, Usen Obot, Levy Pooe, Henrietta Scholtz, Joe Turpin and Helena Uambembe. The exhibition is focused on celebrating the work of dynamic visiting artists who have joined the Bag Factory family within the past five years through awards or residencies. The title of this exhibition speaks to the idea of reflecting whilst simultaneously appreciating where the artists are currently and looking forward as a community. Even as these artists have made strides in their professional careers since being at Bag Factory, this return to the yellow roller doors fortifies that the Bag Factory is always with them on their journeys. Bag Factory: Reflections offers us a unique opportunity to pause and meditate on this five-year mark in the Bag Factory’s 32-year history. The exhibition recognises the perseverance, commitment to create and the growth that these artists have undergone, especially through a turbulent moment in the world’s history. The exhibition spotlights the progress of participating artists by showcasing their newer works created between 2022 and 2023. The exhibition launch coincides with Bag Factory’s participation in the annual programme of OpenStudios.Joburg, on Saturday, 27 May 2023, 10h30 – 16h00. bagfactoryart.org.za
