ERRANCE

ERRANCE
02 October 2024
ERRANCE (Wandering) is the first exhibition by Senegalese-Guadeloupean photographer Xemes Gueye, presented by Monette. The solo exhibition is an invitation to plunge into an intimate and poetic exploration of double identity. Through this series, the artist transports visitors between two lands - Guadeloupe and Dakar, Senegal - revealing, through her lens, a complex reality woven of contradictions and harmonies. ERRANCE aims to go beyond a geographical exploration as it's a quest for belonging, an introspective journey where Xemes Gueye brings together intertwined spaces and histories. Her images reveal the invisible echoes between these two worlds, linking their landscapes and their souls, highlighting the indelible traces of these shared heritages. In this visual wandering, the photographer deconstructs borders - both mental and physical - seeking to transcend the weight of multiple identities to find a universal essence. Each photograph becomes a bridge, a mirror reflecting both the similarities and contrasts between the two cultures. Gueyes sensitively reveals moments of fragility and strength, characteristic of an identity that is torn yet enriched by its duality. For the artist, photography is an act of healing, a sacred space where the intimate meets the collective. This introspective, quasi-spiritual approach is a form of resistance, a means of appropriating one's plural identity and asserting oneself in the face of narratives that are often imposed. Each image thus becomes a window onto its own history, but also an invitation to reflect on one's own identity journeys. The opening will take place on October 2, 2024 from 6pm. Diasporâs 6 rue de Tracy 2nd arrondissement Prais, France
