Intersections – Within the Global South

The THIS IS NOT A WHITE CUBE in partnership with Gallery MOMO, and Banco Económico presents, Intersections – Within the Global South, a group show that brings together 16 international contemporary artists from Angola, South Africa, Mozambique, Burkina Faso, DRC, and Brazil. The exhibition will be on show from November 28, 2019 to January 16, 2020.

Intersections – Within the Global South includes a new generation of artists from the “Global South” who seek to promote, through their work, a comprehensive reflection of the most relevant socio-historical issues experienced in their geographical territories. The exhibition conceptually and artistically explores the multiple affinities inherent in the historical, social and political context of the “Global South” and frames the exhibition within the sphere of social art that encourages public awareness on pressing themes.

Intersections, is presented by Banco Económico in partnership with THIS IS NOT A WHITE CUBE, Angola, and Gallery MOMO, South Africa. The exhibition is curated by Sónia Ribeiro and Graça Rodrigues and critically explores the mechanisms of the creation of western artistic canons, favouring, through their curatorial direction, the presentation of works that materially and technically depart from the most conventional media and artistic genres, through an almost total absence of stricto sensu painting.

Intersections – Within the Global South features works by artists Alida Rodrigues (Angola / UK), Andrew Tshabangu (South Africa), Pedro Pires (Angola / Portugal), Vivien Kohler (South Africa), Bete Marques (Brazil), Gonçalo Mabunda (Mozambique), Stephané E. Conradie (Namibia/South Africa), Januário Jano (Angola), Dillon Marsh (South Africa), Patrick Bongoy (DRC), Saïdo Dicko (Burkina Faso), Nelo Teixeira (Angola), Lizette Chimirre (Mozambique / South Africa), Luís Damião (Angola), Teresa Firmino (Angola / South Africa) and Rómulo Santa Rita (Angola / Mozambique).
