Kader Attia: Show your injuries

Lehmann Maupin, New York, presents Kader Attia: Show your injuries. The show will be at both of Lehmann Maupin New York locations and is Kader Attias's first solo gallery show in the US. The exhibition deals with the legacy of European colonialism and the artist's theories on the cycle of injury and repair.
At 26th Street Attia will build a nine-room labyrinth that will take up the entire gallery space. Included in the installation will be over 100 individual works, including his diptych slide projection Dispossession, which explores the Vatican's ethnological artifacts collection, two massive reproductions of historical paintings depicting masses in Brazil and Algeria, and works that relate to his continuing interest into the concept of repair in Western and non-Western cultures.
At Chrystie Street Kader Attia will install a work that consists of nearly 100 doors, split lengthwise and affixed together to make A-frames. Megaphones will top some of these A-frames, bringing to mind a group of demonstrators at the protest. Exploring the contrasting themes of freedom and confinement that the doors represent, Attia is working with themes he considers essentially to the modern neo-liberal society.
