Sculptures and Works on Paper

Sculptures and Works on Paper
Galerie Mikael Andersen presents the group exhibition Sculptures and Works on Paper, introducing works from a number of artists represented by Galerie Mikael Andersen alongside other artists that the gallery has worked with throughout the years. The conception and development of sculpture and work on paper have taken two very distinct routes through history. To draw on paper was seen as simply sketching - often the first step toward the making of a three-dimensional sculpture - not as creating independent works of art. Those days are long gone and this exhibition showcases the integration of sculpture with works on paper, today one discipline sometimes possesses the qualities historically ascribed to the other. Sculpture has moved far beyond the it’s classical beginnings of marble and bronze; it can be a spontaneous gathering of objects, obtaining an open and unfinished quality of the sort a drawing or sketch can also evoke. Paper has also developed: with photography, paper can serve as the background for what one could call ‘light-casting’; leaving an image on the paper that is just as self-contained as classical sculpture. The exhibition will also show more classical sculpture and paper works, these pieces are now subjected to the paradigm shift in the way we view art. This typifies how all artistic change and innovation impacts both art past and present. With: Tom Anholt, Tjorg D.
