“we choose not to let your minds wonder you choose to let your minds wander make of it what you will…”

The works from the studios of young Ghanaian artists brought together in this group exhibition draw a certain amount of cachet from this tongue in cheek ‘non-title’. The group exhibition comprises of works by Esinam Damalie, Bernice Ameyaw, Yussif Mussah, Rufai Zakari, Winfred Nana Amoah and complimented by writings and doodling by Jo Nketia a poet…

Their works carry elements of sobriety, daring, insouciance, sassy energised vibes, hope and heartfelt desires. Almost all the works in the exhibition reflect deeply felt personal anxieties, fleeting relationships, rooted connectedness or even chance encounters with individuals and community- creating a connection between the viewer and anonymous people- linked by dreams, yearnings, ambitions and fears. Vivid assemblages created from medical texts, mobile money cards, fabric, water and food wrappers and packaging weaving together contexts, histories and narratives.

« In these totally unprecedented times, when we must all adapt to tough restrictions and adopt comportment contrary to our instinctive leanings, we welcome these individuals and communities confronting us. » – so the curators.
Complementing the body of rare figurative and drawings are sculpture by Esinam and Bernice which also leave visitors coming away with vivid and long- lasting impact by the fabrications from everyday materials and by-products- hair extensions, bitumen and car parts.

Nubuke Foundation strongly believes in the relevance of continued artistic production in these times and importance of individuals in engaging with cultural programmes for their well-being and hence that of the society. And that their remit is even more relevant today as it was when they started almost 15 years ago and we embrace wholeheartedly the words of Prince Claus Fund,’ Culture is a basic need’.

This exhibition will simultaneously be hosted in the first virtual exhibition presentation.
