A maior exposição de Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-1988) já feita na América Latina foi exibida no Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil das cidades de São Paulo, Brasília e Belo Horizonte, incluindo 80 obras do artista que pertencem ao acervo particular do maior colecionador de Basquiat, Jose Mugrabi, com curadoria de Pieter Tjabes.

A exposição traz várias obras do artista, entre elas pinturas, colagens, esboços e até pratos de cerâmica. Nascido e criado no Brooklin, em Nova York, sua obra é fortemente marcada pela presença da cidade nos anos 1970 e 1980, entre outros através de grafites. Basquiat, um dos poucos artistas afro-americanos em uma cena de artes majoritariamente branca, soube como subverter convenções ao misturar cultura pop e erudita.
