Amelia Umuhire: Kana

Amelia Umuhire's exhibition KANA transfers the contemporary influences of internet culture and transnational domesticity to recent historical narratives of collective precarization and political violence. Amelia Umuhire was born in Rwanda, grew up in the Lower Rhine region and now works as a director and writer in Berlin. In 2015 she published the web series Polyglot, which was awarded several German and international prizes. Her short film Mugabo (Rwanda / 2017) also received an award for best experimental film at the Blackstar Festival 2017 in Philadelphia. Umuhire is the author and director of the radio feature Vaterland, commissioned and produced by Deutschlandfunk Kultur, which was nominated for the Prix Europa 2019. Her work has been shown at the 10th Berlin Biennale, MOCA Los Angeles, MCA Chicago, Tribeca Film Festival, Smithsonian African American Film Festival, International Film Festival Rotterdam and many others. She is currently the winner of the Villa Romana Prize in Florence. September 4 - October 4, 2020 At Gemeinde Köln Daily 3pm - 8pm
