This group exhibition curated by Wayne Northcross explores the tension between literal and spiritual objecthood, personal and collective practices, and the interplay of irrationality and intellectualism. Featuring a diverse collection of paintings that are far more abstract and rooted in spirituality, the works reinterpret syncretic religious practices, offering a unique lens on African American art that transcends traditional depictions. By assembling pieces that convey political meaning through everyday themes, Wayne invites viewers to engage with the dual role of objects—as pathways to the divine and reflections of our complex human experience.
