Cape Town Art Fair 2018

From the 16th – 18th of February 2018, the 6th edition of Cape Town Art Fair (CTAF) will return to the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC). Positioned as the leading art fair in Africa, CTAF2018 will include the foremost galleries from South Africa, the African continent, and abroad.

Internationally renowned galleries such as Galerija Gregor Podnar (Berlin, Germany), Perrotin (Paris, France) and Magnin-A (Paris, France) will be welcomed to Cape Town for the first time. But also with the return of leading galleries such as Galleria Minini, October Gallery, Galleria Continua, Primo Marella Gallery, and Tiwani Contemporary, among others.

Highlighting the cutting edge of the African art scene are South African galleries including Goodman Gallery,Stevenson, Gallery MOMO, SMAC Gallery, WHATIFTHEWORLD, Blank and Everard Read CIRCA Gallery, amongst others. More broadly, important established and emerging galleries from the African continent such as Galerie Cecile Fakhoury (Abidjan, Ivory Coast), Afriart Gallery (Kampala, Uganda), Circle Art Gallery (Nairobi, Kenya), First Floor Gallery Harare (Harare, Zimbabwe), ARTLabAfrica (Nairobi, Kenya) and Addis Fine Art (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia) will also contribute to the strong showing of the region’s art market.

THIS IS NOT A WHITE CUBE and Mov’art, both from Angola, will be attending for the first time, presenting solo presentations in ICTAF’s curated sections Tomorrows/Today and SOLO. Curated by Nontobeko Ntombela, the inaugural edition of SOLO will focus on the artistic production of women artists, examining the widespread socio-political issues faced by women in both public and private spheres, while also highlighting their contribution to the art world. The chosen artists offer presentations utilising a wide variety of mediums and themes, all with an idiosyncratic perspective on life and art. Commenting on her curatorial approach Ntombela says she is, “interested in the concept of what it means as a female artist to have this extended self through art. The artists we are working with have explored this in many diverse ways.” The presentations included in SOLO are about “upsetting the norm and upsetting the image of women.”
