Cobra-cega

Cobra-cega is an exhibition and interactive work by Wisrah Villefort conceived specifically for the Art Curator Grid. As an online, and potentially global exercise, it touches on issues of representation of non-Western art in Western platforms. In this piece, Villefort explores, with a conceptual approach, a complex reality of image appropriation, one that exists in conflict, sometimes struggle, and contestation, with physical objects. Within the artist's world, images are objects, and there is no physical barrier between nature and culture.

Wisrah Villefort (b. 1989) lives and works in São Paulo, Brazil. His practice involves a conceptual approach to video, photography, installation, text, and hypermedia. Villefort's research focuses on the nonhuman, digital matter, synthetic polymers, and their markets. In @mercado__livre, he investigates the agency of imagery of objects sold in online marketplaces based in the Global South. He was shortlisted to the III Reynaldo Roels Jr Award (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), and his work integrates the collection of The One Minutes Foundation at Sandberg Instituut (Amsterdam, Holanda) and Instituto Moreira Salles (São Paulo, Brazil). Recent exhibitions include a solo exhibition at Goswell Road (Paris, France) and group shows at Like a Little Disaster (Polignano, Italy), U10 Art Space (Belgrade, Serbia), and the 14th Curitiba Biennale (Curitiba, Brazil).

Noelia Portela is an independent curator and arts professional based in Paris. She is the founder and curator of Persona Curada, a non-profit experimental curatorial project founded for the purpose of fostering Latin American Contemporary art, in conversation with the French art scene, through exhibitions, cultural exchange, and cross-disciplinary collaboration. She studied at the School of Architecture and Design from Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand. Noelia is interested in African and Latin-American contemporary art, and her curatorial practice delves in non-western narratives, human mobility, and identity. Noelia has held various positions and collaborated with galleries, art organisations and art fairs, in New Zealand, Europe and the UK including Enjoy Public Art Gallery, Peter McLeavy Gallery, AFA Chile for Feria Ch.Aco, VENICE DESIGN and most recently with 1-54 Contemporary African. She writes occasionally for Artishock Magazine.
