University Professor of African Art History and Visual Cultures

Freie Universität Berlin is seeking a University Professor of African Art History and Visual Cultures. The successful applicant will cover research and teaching in the field of African art history and visual cultures. Salary grade: W 2 or equivalent Reference code: W2KunstAfrikas. Further requirements:
- Outstanding knowledge of African art and visual cultures, proven by excellent publications and research activities
- Relevant research stays, academic collaborations and/or research networks in or on several African countries
- Proven engagement with current cultural studies discourses and methodological issues in publications
- University teaching experience, preferably also international
- Experience in the acquisition and implementation of third-party funded projects is desirable
- Experience with interdisciplinary work contexts
- Excellent language skills in German and/or English, enabling you to teach courses in the respective language
Expectations of future employment:
- Cooperation with the other regional focal points at the Institute of Art History as well as the local collections, museums and scientific institutions (e.g. Berlin State Museums, etc.)
- Participation in existing or planned regional and supra-regional collaborative research projects
- Teaching and supervision in the relevant degree programs of the Institute of Art History and participation in the further development of the degree programs
- Willingness to acquire any missing knowledge of German or English within three years (at level C 1)
- Gender and diversity sensitivity in research, teaching and administration
